>Are you suspicious of your customers?

In Uncategorized on May 2, 2008 by mstevensrev

>I understand the expression “Buyers are liars”, it is one of my favorite around and it is even Biblical. Proverbs 20:14 tells us,

14 “Bad, bad,” says the buyer,
but when he goes away, then he boasts.

I don’t see anything wrong with trying to get a deal and working hard for a fair price. Remember the seller doesn’t have to sell it to you:) Now once someone is a customer of yours, does the suspicion end? You are in relationship and on one level no longer strangers. Doesn’t a certain level of trust come along with that?

Riccardo in his blog about an email from a competitor of mine talks about a poor choice of words used in an email for a upgrade offer.

About Translation: An unfortunate choice of words

A client is your most valuable resource, a close second are those who serve the clients needs (the people with the dirt under their nails), salespeople are the lowest in the chain…the servants of all. Once you have a client, they have bought your product, they should be treasured. It is their permission that leads to recurring business and new opportunities. That doesn’t matter whether you are the second largest company in the industry or a mom and pop. So you want to choose them wisely, and then serve them with everything you have.

>The Full move into Geekdom

In Fun, work on May 2, 2008 by mstevensrev

>It’s bad when I still get excited out on the Microsoft Campus or at Amazon.com, but yesterday it went to an entirely new level. Yesterday I am working in the Bay Area. As I drove around Silicon Valley I had the normal excitement of all that is going on there. I realized I had moved to an entirely different level, when I turned in Palo Alto, and without seeing a sign recognized then proceeded to act like a teenage girl in the audience of American Idol when I saw…Xerox. Yes the main building for Xerox corporation. When I sold copiers I hated them, simply because they were the best. After reading about them recently and finding out that basically everything that has been invented (at least for computers) started there! Anyway even with my appointments yesterday and seeing old friends the thing I wake up this morning thinking about is the feeling I had when I saw that building…Geek.

>My Grandfather Post #2

In family, Granddad on April 30, 2008 by mstevensrev

>I’ve got plenty more to highlight regarding my grandfather’s career as a pilot. In thinking about how my grandmother hooked him up has caused me to reflect on their relationship the last day. When my granddad died, or was almost dead the took him away into the ambulance unconscious. As they wheeled him out my grandmother was next to him holding his hand saying over and over again, “I love you Billy, I love you Billy.” This is after over sixty years of marriage, nine children, many years spent with him as a practicing alcoholic, seperate bedrooms, the whole soap opera.

When I was about sixteen the family decided to throw my grandparents a 50th wedding anniversary party. We rented out an old gym at their church (St. Marks), the renewed their vows. My responsibility was to DJ the event. I borrow some turn tables and speakers from some friends and set them up. The coolest part was my grandmother highlighted all the songs on her vinyl records that she thought would make for an excellent dance! I was really into jazz, especially swing at the time so I was in heaven. The family danced, all of us, and I remember even though my granddad’s health wasn’t great then, he danced a few songs, and he had a special dance with my grandmother. His dancing partner at that point for over 50 years.
